CS 373 Spring 2021 Week 14: Kevin Chen

What did you do this past week?

Spent most of the week recovering from a nasty cold/potential covid scare. Did some work for my other classes and met with my team to finalize this one.

What’s in your way?

Besides the illness and figuring out when I can get my second dose, not much. I will need to do some work over this weekend to be ready for presentations

What will you do next week?

We are presenting on Thursday, so we will need to have our video done and edited before then. I want to keep meeting up with my team to figure out what we have left to do.

If you read it, what did you think of The Joel Test?

Joel Spolsky’s blogs are always great to read. The Joel Test provides some very important questions developers and tech companies need to ask regarding their software practices. I wonder how many of his concerns have been changed or mitigated with current practices

What was your experience of Replace Type Code with State/Strategy (227)?

Some of the refactoring changes seem weird and hard to grasp. I would need more experience and examples to really cement my understanding of when to apply it.

What made you happy this week?

I got an internship offer at Amazon this Wednesday! I was originally prepared to spend another summer at home, but I’d much rather prefer this. The recruiting process is definitely exhausting and demoralizing so I consider myself very fortunate to secure this opportunity.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Don’t use your iPad as a mousepad or you may inadvertently lock yourself out and have to restore it. Not a fun thing to do especially when you don’t have an Apple computer and Itunes on windows is not much different from malware.
